Changan Got Approval for Tianjin's First L4 Level Autonomous Driving Test Project
The Tianjin transportation authorities recently announced that Changan Automobile's autonomous driving test project in Tianjin for L4 level achieved approval, the first such L4 level autonomous driving commercial test project approved in Tianjin.
It is reported that Changan will build a 5,000-square-meter L4-level autonomous driving test base in Tianjin Economic and Technological Development Zone. The base will introduce advanced laser radar, satellite positioning and onboard computer equipment in China to conduct autonomous driving tests in various complex traffic environments.
A Changan Automobile executive said that the focus of this test project is to develop a 7-seat commercial vehicle model. The model will be equipped with 16 laser radars, 12 cameras and multiple navigation devices, capable of completing autonomous driving tasks such as parking, lane changing and overtaking within a 20 km range in urban areas. The test period will be one and a half years.
Officials estimate that if the tests are successful, Changan plans to mass produce and provide free autonomous driving services within certain areas of Tianjin next year, marking Tianjin as the second Chinese city after Beijing to experiment with L4-level autonomous driving commercial applications.
